Not even in their dreams

When fire and hunger

Desires and dreams

Are smothered firmly

By an overwhelming fear

Then the urge to win

Defiance, self belief

Slowly starts withering away

One may have fought, won many times

All that takes a backseat

As one conforms, learns to bow

Even bending their backs

But as one bends, the less one sees

Just a little that’s, around their feet

A look at the sky, horizon and beyond

One doesn’t dare, not even in dreams

Not even in their dreams
