Dead Weight

Dead Weight

He walked silently in the dark

For ages had been doing that

Night is all he had seen

Had no memories of light

Past scrubbed by unending aches

And that dangling dead weight

Didn’t know when, it had creeped up

Silently on his back

And reason why he dragged in pain

A load he didn’t ask

He looked around for any sign

Knowing it won’t be there

Thought of asking the dead weight

If it could somehow convey

But now he had gotten used to

Even liking his only pal

For in the dark on a lonely path

He finally had someone to talk
