Forgotten Past
Once in a while
It catches you unawares
The past you had buried
Raises its head
Tarry black like molten lead
A lava waiting, to flow again
You are past it and moved on
To venture ahead
But a gentle nudge
Or turning of neck
And you’ll see it staring
Lying in wait
