Movie Review: The Rebel Moon

The Rebel Moon: Part One, The Child of a Fire

Well it’s a familiar world. Though there are a lot of plot holes, one could pick out more, even in the Star Wars trilogy. Also needs to be considered that Disney refused Jack Snyder’s offer of making the film in the Star Wars universe.

So he went ahead in creating his own universe that is dark and senseless. There are a lot of questions and lot many are left unanswered. Yet it’s universe that’s worth visiting just to forget the universe we live in.

Rebel Moon is much different than the “Guardian of Galaxy” Movies. For it lacks the goofiness. This is a serious movie and quite dark at that. And had the potential to run into more sequels.

Yes, the film takes you on a cinematic ride. A ride on a grand canvas though arguably riddled with holes. But which you might miss if you just let go of yourself and enjoy the spectacle unfolding in front of your eyes.

One thing you won’t regret is the action, especially the breathtaking fight sequence executed by Kora, as she saves Sam.

The creatures in the movie seem a bit outlandish and a product of imagination gone wild. Yet they do give the viewer some vibes of the the old Star War movies.

There are a lot of similarities with Star Wars. Like the character of clueless Gunner which looks similar to the one played by Harrison Ford. Character Kora feels deceptively similar to Jedi, of course without the force. And not forgetting rag tag band of rebels.

It’s a fast paced movie with a lot of characters thrown in, with little time for character development. May be we might see more in the the next movie.

Watch it, enjoy it, who knows there might be a beautiful journey ahead waiting in the sequels. And even if not, it’s worth watching as a stand-alone movie.
