My Shores

My Shores – Poem by Shashikant Dudhgaonkar

My Shores

Arriving again and again
in gentle waves,
your memory
washes over softly
and overwhelms
the sand of thoughts
tightly packed,
trying to protect
my shores.

I surrender myself
gleefully,
watch the surf create art
distinct, dramatic, delicate
and roll across
the featureless sand
as a dancing, bubbly carpet
that brings to life
my shores.

The tiny tsunami, unleashed,
inundates everything,
flooding each crevice, every plain,
and yet I relish, secretly
my complete surrender.
Fancy, fantasy, fairytales
take over
for a few brief moments
before the waves recede
back to the sea,
leaving in shambles
my shores.
