On Waking Up

On Waking Up

Woke up from sleep

With a start

Those beautiful dreams

Faded away

In an instant

Looked around

In the sheets on the pillow

On the walls

For a trace of them

Even a tiny one

Everything was lost

In the closed eyes

Of soulless night

Except the world as it was

With it’s bittersweet memories

Mostly bitter sour and salty

With a hint of sweetness

So faint

Could have been imagined

By an overtly optimistic mind

Though everything was there

Everything that was not there

Was not there

When I had closed my mind

To fall asleep

Last night
