The Boulevard

The Boulevard

An early beginning to an empty day

To be filled by those

Whom I will meet

With their angst

Waiting to be released

Happiness is not hawked on streets

Nirvana is not sold in malls

Bliss is a commodity

Rarer than diamonds

Animus and anger

Resentment and fear

Is ripe and ready to fall

From trees lining the boulevard

Marble statues and flower beds

Smile with a lifeless joy

Coffee shops bustle with crowds

Downing darkness with every sip

That may bring them alive

And there’s a calm sea

Devoid of tides

Swaying gently

On the other side

They say

I only see the wrong things

Not the art in the statues

Beauty in flowers

Nor serenity of the sea

Yet can’t close my eyes

To fruits bitter and ready to fall

From trees that line the boulevard

On heads of people passing by
