War & Peace

War & Peace

They organise rallies in hundreds

Sometimes more of them gather on streets

Holding placards

That demand peace

Wherever they want it

When no one knows

What exactly peace means

There can be ceasefires

Prisoner exchanges

And humanitarian aid

Though behind the charade

Everyone fortifies their walls

Raise their stocks of machines of war

For we humans have a warped sense

On how to construe peace

What of the world then as it is now

Haven’t we progressed far enough

Than what we were centuries ago

No the enlightened one would say

We are much the same

Cruel selfish and hungry for war

Just the tools have changed

And the way we do it

That is

With elegance and style

What of literature and sports

Music and arts

That have certainly elevated our lives

No the enlightened would say again

They are just tools to keep us busy

Till the beginning of the next war
