You

You | Poem by Shashikant Dudhgaonkar

You

©️ Shashikant Dudhgaonkar

The moon leans close
and nudges gently,
awakening dreams
that lie dormant within.
It breathes life into them;
feelings surge forth,
like fountains of coloured light,
rising in a soft crescendo,
of a thousand violins
playing alive,
as if the moment
had long been destined.

Yet it’s a mercilessly cold world;
everything demands a coin
before it provides.
And all one truly seeks
is a little warmth,
a quiet solace
of your warm embrace,
and the calm refuge
of your tender eyes,
that dissolves every thought,
every worry and every fright.

You are the one,
warm in whose bosom
I would take my last breath,
and yet come alive.
You are the sunrise
of hope and dreams
that makes the effort of breathing
worthwhile.
