Following lines are about feelings that a lot of people have or have had. They are numbing as well as terrifying, at the same time. These lines are especially for them and for people who might be knowing them. Will help them understand their suffering. Come face to face with it. For in understanding lie the seeds of relief and change. A change towards wrenching back the controls of one’s life.
Depression
Sometimes it envelopes you completely
That feeling of being lost
World feels tough to navigate
Even difficult to survive
Maybe there are a lot of faults in me
And nothing much likeable
Sometimes feel that disgust is the only thing
I evoke in others
Making them move away
Though hiding it carefully
Those that are far seem to add more distance
Day by day between us
About the dear ones I am at a loss
Why do they care for me
Is it Love and caring
Or just a duty for them
To be performed
All this whips up a whirlpool dust
Of confounding thoughts
That hides the sun
Of clarity and facts
But then, is sun the ultimate truth
For everyone has their own sun
Some see it rising, some setting
For some it’s above their head
Then whose sun is the ultimate truth
Don’t know and nowadays don’t care
For answers are hard to come by
Even if they come by will they be useful
Sometimes mind turns towards astrology
To search for answers in planets and moon
Sometimes it becomes a sleuth
Hunting for clues that are not there
Know I am imagining things
Seeing world through that particular tint
I have coloured myself in
Yet the whirlpool of thoughts
Keeps on increasing
Yet never losing its centre
Of depressing thoughts

Do these lines ring a bell in you. Can you identify with them. Then my friend you are not alone. There are many silently suffering souls in the world. It’s not difficult to come out of depression. But for that one needs to acknowledge it and try to get help. Help can be in any form. Like family, friends, colleagues, peers, teachers, social organisations and of course medical help. And importantly speak. Speak with anyone who is willing to listen. It can be anybody.

Thanks for sharing your profound thoughts Shashi. Though I don’t suffer from depression or anxiety, I know many who do. Great resources too.
Seeing a lot of patients of depression who are undiagnosed or they don’t realise it.
Yes, in our part of the world, people don’t even realize that they have a mental illness.
True.
And the stigma attached to going to a psychiatrist is huge. They would rather suffer than get treated
Yes. I find it difficult to convince my patients with mental health issues to consult a psychiatrist. Some accept. Some don’t. If it’s a kid then parents are reluctant.
If treated everyone can have a reasonably good life.
You’re very right but people fear society more than the illness. Very sad
Nice composition!
These people are here with Depression ..so sad. 😔 but some are the hospital .Anita
