Embers
There’s an enticing blob of orange brightness
That holds your eyes in its grip
Not letting them wander
Away
Molten lava seems to ooze
From where the sun went down
Spreading upwards in orange fumes
Into the helpless sky
That’s exploited by both
Night and day
The lazy river below is also not spared
It absorbs the orange yellow glare
Without much fuss
For water knows
Today’s fiery embers are tomorrow’s inert pebbles and stones
A cold deadweight
That sink down to the bottom
Lying there at mercy of waves
For centuries
