Hope
When I finally start believing
In Humankind
There’s an happening so vile
That I lose all faith
In humankind
And then some thing comes along
A stranger smiles
Someone goes out of their way
To help
By crossing miles
A queue gives way for a crying child
A wrinkled face
Has liveliest of eyes
Someone drops a few extra coins
In jar of a homeless or a blind
Someone holds a door
For strangers behind
Someone forgives
Someone repents their crime
And I am hooked all over again
To Humankind

Yes, this is one of the must fundamental conundrums I have ever encountered, Shashi. Your poem is terrific!
