Lonely Silence

Lonely Silence

Some nights the clouds float by

Some nights a clear sky

Pushes the stars

Inch by inch

Silhouettes of buildings

Far away and near

Stay motionless and still

Leaves fallen asleep

Wake up and reluctantly dance

To the tune of an occasional breeze

Echoes of squealing tires

Reverberate far through the vacant air

Randomly

As unfazed by ungodly hours

Vehicles ferry passengers

Towards their roofs

Once in a while a dog wails

Inciting others to join in

Their chorus dying out

As it had begun

Quick

The inert quietness

Regains its stranglehold once again

On the proceedings

A hollow calm pervades unruffled by interludes

While critters and insomniacs

Come alive

To celebrate the empty silence

And the sound of nothing
