Old Man Tales

Days pass by

Sunrise sunsets months and years

On autopilot

Sometimes something breaks down

Or defeated and dejected

We lie down

Slipping into a dark place

Where shadows crawl

Some whimper some cry

Others scream in pain

Legs buckled under stress

They can’t stand or walk

They crawl like the rest

There are a few tall ones standing upright

Enveloped in a shimmering light

They float above the ground

Vainly

And one after another they stand up and shout

I am the one

The only bearer of truth

A truth that transcends life and time

A truth that’s eternal

A truth our creator has doled out

To the faithfuls

Only I can guide your souls

Towards light and a heavenly afterlife

As the shadows they speak

An old man infinite of age

Laughs and curses under his breath

And talks to himself

I am the one who knows the truth

I am the one who knows there’s no way out

There’s a beginning and an end

Birth and death

And there’s life between

Before life begins and after it ends

There’s a nothingness that cannot be described

One can’t describe what is not there

Nothing can exists in nothing

Not even light

Nor afterlife

And yet no one hears me out
