Sated

Sated

Edge of palms had tried to straighten

A wrinkled paper

Torn out from paper bags

On which dinner had just arrived

For words had begun to form

And dissolve

Somewhere above the busy palate

Engrossed in pleasing tastes

Tongue eagerly sought

Lyrical words rhyming words

Maybe a ballad long, I thought

With a beat matching the gentle trot

Of a graceful horse

Slow deliberate and a lingering trot

Where new words began

Before old one’s are fully formed

And then everything fades away

As they always do

Dreams, fantasies, words and meanings

Meeting their end in a stomach

Full of sated thoughts
