Silence of the Shells
I walked along the beach
Rather crawled on all fours
In search of distant sounds
I’d never heard before
Echoes of ocean’s
Rumblings in its depths
Gentle lapping of waves
Towards untouched shores
Empty shells are gateways
They transmit sounds of far
Yet whenever I picked one
Silence is all they had
Mother had once said
She’d hear those beautiful sounds
Saying so she had flashed
Her all knowing smile
Looking back can now see
What she wanted me to hear
A silence coming alive
When one stops their search

Thanks for sharing your words. Anita
Beautiful poem
Thanks Sadje. What, we most of the times are searching for, is silence, peace and a kind of serenity.
Yes, especially as we age we value peace and quiet more
Lovely poem
Thanks Shabnam
