Stroll

By Shashikant Dudhgaonkar

This poem is written in response to a prompt on

Simply 6 Minutes – Welcome to the Challenge (01-14-2025)
.
The prompt was to write about the photo given below.

Photo used as the prompt for the poem
An image used as the inspiration for the poem.
They smiled at me
Rather my camera
Not all four of them though
While the man beamed from ear to ear
Holding on to his uncomfortable child
Suspicion writ large in the primate’s eyes
Hidden behind it I assumed
The women did smile
Don’t know why they did
Or why the ape and child didn’t
Perhaps the couple might have been returning from a stroll
Where they found it
Hiding in the bushes
The naked ape
Or could be the baby
One never knows
