The Baseline

The Baseline | Poem by Shashikant Dudhgaonkar

The Baseline

Ones victories and failures
interrupt uniformity
constantly
One loves stability
though victories more
getting high even more
The peaks pass
one returns to uniformity
memories linger
though life pulls one back
into its mundane stability
One could deny failures
vehemently
though
they will never leave you
they’ll hurt, scar and embed themself
under ones skin
erupting suddenly in crops
in moments of solitude
Sometimes
one may claim big wins
even when one has clearly
lost it
celebrating it, basking in it
unabashedly
