We are in a hurry

We are in a Hurry – A Poem by Shashikant Dudhgaonkar

We are in a Hurry

To place someone on a pedestal
or to trample underfoot

We jump at the chance
To achieve it

For we are in a hurry

To assign blunders and wrongdoings
To someone
Find faults in them that may not exist

Or credit others with unimaginable wins

We jump at the chance
To raise any flag
That may try to incite

For we are in a hurry

Working with an efficiency of Chinese industry

Our minds judge, label, and sort
Anyone they come across

Segregating them into compartments

Watertight

And we jump at the chance

To achieve it

For we are in a hurry

We crave heroes,

We crave villains too

For us

No human exists outside of these two
Is it arrogance or insecurity

Anger or envy

Or something else

We don’t know

But one thing is certain

This unquenchable hunger devours us
Digesting our insides
